A premium robot vacuum can easily cross the $1,000 mark once self-emptying, heated mop washing, obstacle avoidance and advanced navigation enter the picture. After spending time with the machine, the biggest surprise is not how many features it has, but how well most of them translate into less daily maintenance.

Setup Is Surprisingly Painless

The L40 Ultra arrives with a sizeable docking station, so finding the right spot is more important than with a conventional robot vacuum. Once connected to the Dreamehome app, the robot can create a map of the home and divide it into rooms.

Mapping is impressively quick and accurate. Furniture and room boundaries are generally placed correctly, and the app makes it easy to rename rooms, create no-go zones and schedule individual areas.

The dock is undeniably large, though. Its footprint needs to be considered before buying, particularly in smaller apartments.
